If Steve Reich ran a drum line, it might sound something like Man Forever. With John Colpitts (aka Kid Millions of Oneida) at the helm, this drum ensemble bangs out Colpitts’ abstract compositions with beauty and precision. Sparingly assisted by other instrumentation, the five drummers on these recordings chart the undulating rhythm — trance-like — of the universe.

Pansophical Cataract will be out soon on Thrill Jockey Records.

Inside joke: the type on the back cover is comprised of every weight of the typeface DIN overlaid atop one another. ‘Din,’ meaning an awkward sound for us english speakers, is also a common arabic term for faith or more specifically the way you live your life through faith. For Germans, it’s an acronym for their national board of standards and shorthand for the famous type endorsed by that board for their license plates. If you put all that together we think it’s an apt metaphor for this project.

This digital compilation offers a rare peak inside the Brooklyn underground. Like an inversion of it’s namesake, the Ocropolis was Oneida’s subterranean studio hidden in the basement of Monster Island in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (Brooklyn underground…get it). From the avant garde(Emily Manzo) to dub(DubKnowDub), and country rock(Oakley Hall) to experimental pop(Akron Family), this comp covers some pretty amazing territory. Recorded at the Ocropolis by Brah Records. The download is accompanied by the art as well as a booklet containing exclusive photos of the sessions by Zach Lehrhoff of Knyfe Hits.

Koozies & Woodies & Beers will be out soon on Brah and Jagjaguwar. All profits from this release will be donated to Ashinaga http://www.ashinaga.org/en/ and JOICFP http://www.joicfp.or.jp/en/, two Japan Relief agencies recommended to Brah by Shinji Masuko.

We worked with New York noise rock outfit Sightings to design the cover for their latest Brah Records release, ‘City of Straw.’ We got our hands dirty on this one….yes, we actually punched out all of those holes. The result is a design that illustrates the tension of the music as it skirts edge between chaos and melody.
